I enjoyed visiting old places to see how they are now (like for example the citadel) or meeting up with my old party members. It's good that you can import your old character and choices you made in the first game will affect your play through in ME2 to a certain degree.

The game is much more accessible than the first game and the story writing and world building is great and just continues to build on the foundation that was laid out with ME1.

Squad leveling is nowhere near as engaging or interesting - there's very little choice in how to shape them. Gameplay is dumbed down to a point where it's little more than a third person shooter, particularly at the beginning of the game. The story, while well told with excellent voice acting and line-to-line script, is almost completely inconsequential to the trilogy arc.
